The journey of the movie padmavati has been challenging and difficult and finally Padmavati’s new release date fixed for 12 January. After renaming of the movie, padmavati to- padmavat-seems to have finally secured its spot at the much awaited silver screen outing. But will changing film title douse the controversy?
rumours says that the movie may have more than 300 cuts. Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chief Prasoon Joshi has already clarified that the makers of Padmavat have not been asked to make 300 cuts to the movie, but that cannot stop twitter jokes anymore. Prasoon joshi tells that the producers and director had been asked to run a disclaimer saying the movie does not “claim historical accuracy”, and that they were “completely in agreement” with the suggestions. Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the studio behind the movie, did not respond to a request for comment. It had earlier said the film captured “Rajput valor, dignity and tradition in all its glory”.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavat stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor and is based on the 16th century epic poem “Padmavat” by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. The movie is all set to clash with Akshay Kumar’s PadMan on January 25.
Padmavat, as it is now being called, was screened for a special bench of historians who have decided only five modifications which included the change in the title from Padmavati to Padmavat. But the rumour about 300 cuts in the movie was just a rumour indeed. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the release date on Twitter saying, “#Padmavat to release on 25 Jan 2018… #RepublicDayWeekend”.
