According to sources, the Johnson & Johnson-developed Covid-19 vaccine would likely be accessible in India in small amounts by July of this year. The Association of Healthcare Providers (India) is in the process of purchasing the vaccine privately from the producers in the US.
The vaccine from Johnson & Johnson might be available in India next month. However, only a few thousand doses would be available at first.
In India, the one-shot vaccine will cost $25. There is no need to preserve the Viral Vector frozen. It is ideal for tropical countries & countries that lack medical infrastructure.
According to the WHO, the J&J vaccination is 66.3 percent effective against mild to moderate infection. The efficacy rate is 76.3 p% against severe to critical infection. In addition, 28 days after immunization, it provides 100% protection against hospitalization for Covid-19.
Johnson & Johnson has already begun talks with the Union government about approval and its vast production in India. In April, the US pharmaceutical firm approached the Centre with the goal of starting a clinical bridging trial in India.
As per new rules in India, there is no compulsion for vaccines licensed by the US Food and Drug Administration to initiate trials. The vaccine is expected to be approved for use in the upcoming month. In February 2021, the US FDA approved Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use.
However, the vaccinations’ rapid rollout has paused in recent weeks after they were linked to a rare blood-clotting issue. Due to the increased incidence of the more contagious Delta version in the UK, the J&J vaccine was permitted as an emergency. Experts suggest there is a need for a booster shot due to the contagious Delta variant.

No studies have been conducted to know how effective is the particular vaccine against Delta and Delta Plus variants. Johnson & Johnson says has started its testing regarding the vaccine’s immune response to the Delta variation in a lab setting. Currently, there is no data available for this testing.
