Scottish actor James McAvoy has appealed to his social media fans and supporters to assist India in the battle against the coronavirus. The X-Men and Atonement actor described the situation as a “huge, massive crisis.”
James captioned the video on Instagram: “India needs assistance. You can assist…donate what you can if you are able. @daivikfoundation has a link to a page dedicated to only giving in my bio.” He said in the video, “I believe everyone is aware of the current situation in India. It’s a disaster. There is a major problem, and there is a severe shortage of oxygen.” He then urged everyone to donate whatever they could or to share his video message with others if they couldn’t.
James’ fans praised him for assisting India. “Always thoughtful and generous. Thank you so much “one was published “You really have a big great heart, love, I love you a lot,” wrote another.
Many other foreign actors, including Reese Witherspoon, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Katy Perry, Ellen Degeneres, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Will Smith, have made contributions or asked their followers to donate to the humanitarian efforts.
Camila posted a video on Sunday, a day after her boyfriend Shawn did the same, urging her followers to donate. Shawn made a $50,000 pledge, while Camila raised $6,000 with her video. Hrithik Roshan, an actor, has donated $15,000 to the fundraiser organized by motivational speaker Jay Shetty.
In the midst of a brutal second wave of the coronavirus, India has been battling a lack of medical supplies such as hospital beds, drugs, and life-saving oxygen. On Monday, India recorded 3,68,147 new cases of coronavirus disease, bringing the country’s overall infection count close to 20 million. According to the Union health ministry’s dashboard at 9:15 a.m., the country’s overall case count has now reached 19,925,604.
