Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silavat has said that Jal Jeevan Mission was initiated in the year 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under ‘Har Ghar Jal’ in every village of the country.
To promote the mission, “Jal-Hath” campaign will be run as a mass movement under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav in the state.
Under the campaign, old ponds and other water sources in every village and every city will be upgraded, developed, beautified, deepened besides removing the encroachments around water sources and planting trees will the participation of government and society.
Water Resources Minister Silavat presented the departmental proposal in this regard to Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Singh Patel at his residence and requested that the Jal-Hath campaign be run as a public movement in every village of the state.
Minister Patel assured that conservation of water sources and water conservation will be given the form of a people’s movement in every gram panchayat of the state.
Minister Silavat said that under the campaign, encroachments on water sources will be removed on priority.
Catchment area of the ponds and other water sources of the state are getting depleted due to encroachments, leading to increased pollution and less water is available for irrigation and drinking.
Earlier water was conserved throughout the year in small river drains in rural areas, but these rivers have now become extinct.
It is very important to revive them to conserve rain water and upgrade ground water.
Minister Silavat said that a departmental scheme will be prepared for the revitalization of natural water sources and ponds in all the districts of the state under the Jal-Hath campaign, by identifying them and it will be implemented as a public movement with the help of various sections of the society and voluntary organizations.
Full cooperation of all public representatives, social/cultural organizations, sports institutions, educational institutions, saints and intellectuals will also be sought in the campaign.
Minister Silavat said that Madhya Pradesh has a rich tradition of water conservation and promotion.
The Chandel and Gond period water conservation system of the state was famous not only in India but all over the world. We have achieved record success in enhancing irrigation resources in the state.
Many extensive works have been done for the revitalization and renovation of ponds.
The priority of the government is to save natural water sources and ponds for which we are working in a planned manner.
