Adding yet another feather to its crown, the country’s cleanest city has also been chosen as India’s sole city for the International Clean Air Catalyst Program.
Clean Air Catalyst is a new flagship initiative established by USAID and a worldwide consortium of organisations led by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to expedite clean air solutions in poor and middle-income countries.
Indore has implemented the City Clean Air Catalyst initiative in partnership with USAID and other international organisations such as EDF and WRI. The project will be run for 5 years with the cooperation of the Indore Municipal Corporation and the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board for clean and pure air in the city.
A meeting between the Clean and Catalyst teams was held on Monday. The meeting, which was led by municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal, addressed the program’s functioning and design. The research of source awareness and other treatments were also discussed. Work on topics such as health, climate change, and gender will be done in the project’s next phases.
In Phase 1 of the programme, a monitoring equipment of Rs 1.2 crore will be installed for source awareness study. For other interventions in the project, other international organisations will also participate in the project in the next phase.
