To smoothen the movement DMRC launched India’s first FASTag or UPI-based parking facility on Tuesday. This was done to provide similar services at more Delhi Metro parking lots throughout the city in the NCR region.
The Kashmere Gate station’s gate number-6 has a cashless parking facility that can accommodate 55 four-wheelers and 174 two-wheelers. The FASTag, an electronic toll collection system managed by the NHAI, can be used by four-wheelers to pay their tolls.
“The parking cost will be deducted through FASTag, which will reduce the time for entry and payment,” says the NHAI.
This facility would only allow FASTag-equipped vehicles to park.
“Swiping the DMRC smart card is the only way of entering for two-wheelers,” the DMRC added.
The smart card swipe is only used to charge the time of entry or exit. It also calculates the fee because no money is withdrawn from the card. “UPI apps can be used to pay the parking cost by scanning the QR code. Payments can also be done with DMRC/NCMC cards in the future.”
The facility is a DMRC pilot project. “Furthermore, the DMRC plans to install comparable systems at more of its parking facilities around the Delhi-NCR region.”
As part of the Multi-Model Integration (MMI) programme, dedicated Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) lanes for the auto, taxi, and e-rickshaws were also introduced at the Kashmere Gate station.
There will be a food court and a bus terminal (three lanes with five buses each) in the second phase of MMI, which is now under construction.
Commuters travelling from or to the Kashmere Gate station will be benefited from these services. The Kashmere Gate station is the DMRC’s only triple-interchange station and one of the busiest on the metro network.
In the presence of DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh and senior DMRC and National Payments Corporation of India executives, both the FASTag or UPI-based parking and Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) lanes were launched at Kashmere Gate metro station.
