Naval Chief Admiral Sunil Lamba will go for a five-day US tour from tomorrow. During this time, he will hold detailed discussions with the top military officials of the Trump administration to strengthen bilateral naval cooperation other than Indian Pacific region.
Admiral Lamba will meet Defense Minister James Matisse, US Navy Minister Richard V Spencer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph F. Dunfard Jr., naval expedition chief Admiral John M. Richardson and commander of the Pacific Command Admiral Harry Harris.
A senior Navy official said that Naval Chief will also meet the Vice Admiral Thomas J. Moore, Commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Skat Swift and Commander of Naval Marine System Command.
The Ministry of Defense said that the purpose of this visit is to strengthen cooperation between the forces of India and America and to find new ways of defense cooperation. Sources said that the rising military presence of China in the South China Sea and its growing dogma in the region could be raised in the negotiation of Admiral Lamba with top US military officers. The US is advocating the increased role of India in the strategically important Indian Pacific region.
