India slammed UN General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir on Friday for his remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, calling them “misleading and biassed” and a “huge disrespect to the office he occupies.”
Mr. Bozkir, speaking with Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday, said it was “Pakistan’s obligation” to bring the problem of Jammu and Kashmir to the UN’s attention.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) responded strongly, calling his views “inappropriate” and his allusion to the Indian union territory “unwarranted.”
“When the current President of the United Nations General Assembly makes inaccurate and biased statements, he does significant damage to the office he holds. The President of the United Nations General Assembly’s behavior is extremely regretful and will undoubtedly damage his reputation on the world stage “In response to a media inquiry on the matter, MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated.
Expressing oneself “Mr. Bagchi expressed his “strong opposition to the unwarranted references made with respect to the Indian Union Territory of J-K” by Mr. Bozkir during his recent visit to Pakistan, saying his remarks that “Pakistan is ‘duty-bound to raise this issue in the UN more forcefully are unacceptable.” There is also no foundation for comparison with other worldwide circumstances.”
Mr. Bozkir came to Pakistan on Wednesday for a three-day official visit at Mr. Qureshi’s request.
Following New Delhi’s intention to withdraw special powers from Jammu and Kashmir and divide the state into two union territories in August 2019, Pakistan has made strong attempts to internationalize the Kashmir problem and ramped up its anti-India campaign on the topic.
India has expressed its wish for regular neighborly ties with Islamabad in an atmosphere devoid of terror, animosity, and bloodshed. India has stated that it is Pakistan’s responsibility to establish an atmosphere devoid of terror and animosity.
