According to data from the Union health ministry, India added 134,154 new cases to its coronavirus disease (Covid-19) tally on Thursday, while 2,887 deaths reported in the last 24 hours brought the total to 337,989 cases. As the country recovers from the deadly second wave of the virus, the number of new infections has increased by over 2,000 since Wednesday.

India completed a week of reporting daily cases under the 200,000 mark on Thursday. When the country began to battle the virus’s raging wave, daily infections reached over 400,000.

The caseload increased to 28,441,986 cases, according to the health ministry’s dashboard. According to the data, there are 1,713,413 active cases in the country, with a positivity rate of 6.34 percent. According to official data, the active caseload has remained below two million for the third day in a row, despite an increase in new infections since Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, the country reported 211,499 recoveries. As a result, daily recoveries continue to outnumber new infections on a daily basis. According to the ministry’s data, more than 26 million people have recovered from the deadly disease since the pandemic hit the country. The recovery rate has remained on an upward trend, now standing at 92.48 percent, according to the data.

Since Wednesday, there has been a net decrease of 320 deaths from Covid-19, with the country reporting 3,207 fatalities. After 36 days of reporting fewer than 3,000 daily fatalities, the death toll surpassed 3,000 on Wednesday, alarming health officials and the government.

According to the official report, over 21.59 lakh samples were tested for the virus in the last 24 hours. Testing increased in the last day, with 2,019,773 tests completed on Wednesday. According to the data, India has conducted over 35 crore tests in total.
