For the first time in 132 days (March 16), India recorded fewer than 30,000 new coronavirus cases, with 29,689 new infections recorded in the previous 24 hours. This brought the total number of active cases in the country to 3,98,100, or 1.27 percent of all cases. According to the latest updates from the Union Health Ministry’s Covid bulletin, the active caseload has fallen below 4 lakh for the first time in 124 days. The daily rate of positivity was 1.73 percent.
The number of new cases registered in the last 24 hours is roughly 10,000 lower than the number of samples that tested positive on Monday, when there were 39,361 new cases, accounting for 1.31 percent of active cases.
In the last 24 hours, 17,20,100 samples were tested for coronavirus, bringing the total number of samples tested to 45,91,64,121, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The health ministry said that 66 lakh doses of vaccine against Covid-19 were administered during the day, bringing the total number of inoculations to 44.19 crore as part of the national vaccination drive.
Since the start of the third phase of the vaccination drive, the ministry has said that over 14 lakh beneficiaries in the age group 18-44 years have received their first dose and over 65 lakh have received their second dose across states/UTs.
