Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that we have to make Madhya Pradesh drug free. People involved in drug trade are the most deadly and dangerous criminals.

Strictest action should be taken against them. The property of such persons should be identified and confiscated. Use the latest technology to control drugs and its business. Intelligence system should be activated and strengthened, he said.

Best practices and innovations issued in other states should be implemented in the state. A massive public awareness campaign should be launched in the state to make the youth aware. Special vigilance should be exercised in schools, colleges and slum areas, he said.

Chouhan was addressing the state level meeting of Narcotics Coordination Mechanism. Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Director General of Police Sudhir Saxena, representatives of national agencies related to Narcotics and officers of Health, Social Justice and Industry Departments attended the meeting.

Chouhan said that it is necessary to run an intensive campaign to save the youth from drug addiction. Activities should be conducted in schools and colleges at the beginning of the next academic session the youth should be administered an oath not to take drugs. Special efforts will have to be made to get rid of the habit of intoxication. Drug de-addiction centers should be operated in the state as per the requirement.

He said it is necessary to conduct continuous activities for control of drug-related activities, de-addiction and public awareness against drugs. District level committees of Narcotics Coordination Mechanism should meet every month and the action taken in them should be kept before the state level committee. Courts should be formed immediately in those districts of the state where NDPS courts have not been formed.

Madhya Pradesh was first in the country in drug-free India campaign

It was informed that in the drug-free India campaign, the state has been declared the first and Datia is the best district in the country by the Social Justice Department of the central government. Action was taken by registering 4740 crimes under the NDPS Act in the year 2022 and arresting 5673 accused. Satellite mapping of opium belts is being done in Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam. Information about the confiscation and disposal of Smack, Opium, Ganja, Doda Chura, Heroin etc. and the action taken against illegal liquor and drinking alcohol in public places and driving vehicles after drinking alcohol was also given in the meeting. In the meeting, issues related to mandatory installation of signboards focusing on the harm caused by drugs in bars, pubs, restaurants, etc., prohibition of drug trade through darknet, crypto currency and online shopping were also discussed.
