Long lines of vehicles are seen waiting for the go-ahead at the Masab Tank area in Hyderabad in the viral images of the event. The ambulances are among them, and their sirens can be heard in the videos.
Two medical personnel are seen approaching the on-duty traffic cop and requesting that he clear the road for the ambulances. A police officer can be heard telling them to wait a moment.
In another video, the person filming it is heard questioning a police officer why traffic has been halted for a minister when ambulances are on the way. The officer responds that it is not a minister and that he has no idea whose convoy it is. Despite not knowing this, the guy claims to have stopped the traffic in which the ambulances are trapped.
Ambulances were reportedly on their way from Mahaveer Hospital to Virinchi Hospital when traffic was purportedly halted to let the VIP convoy to pass. According to locals, traffic was halted to allow the convoy of Telangana Home Minister Mahmood Ali to pass.
When questioned about traffic police prioritizing a VIP convoy above ambulances, the officer on duty denied any knowledge of the situation.
According to a news statement released by the Hyderabad traffic police, the two ambulances had come to a halt at a light and only one of them was transporting a patient. They also claimed that traffic was freed as soon as the ambulance crew called the cops. It has been learned that the patient is now doing well.
