On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted moderate to heavy rain in Mumbai and its suburbs, with the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rain in isolated locations. According to IMD’s update, these weather conditions will last through Tuesday and Wednesday. Mumbai and other districts in the Konkan region have already been issued a red alert by the weather bureau.
Meanwhile, the Central Railway reported that local train services on the Main Line, Harbour Line, Transharbour Line, and Fourth Corridor are operating normally. There have been no long-distance trains rescheduled as well.
Intense rains continue to fall in Mumbai and many other parts of Maharashtra, including Thane and Palghar districts, causing house collapses, waterlogging, landslides, and electrocutions in several areas.
Rain-triggered landslides killed 31 people and injured six others in Mumbai on Sunday. A landslide in Vikhroli claimed ten lives and caused one injury, while a landslide in Chembur claimed 19 lives and caused five injuries.
A four-year-old boy was also reported to have drowned in Thane after being swept into a swollen drain. On Monday, a bould killed five members of a family, including three minors, in Thane’s Kalwa area.
Although the intensity of the rain decreased for a brief period on Monday, it eventually increased as the day progressed. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on the other hand, stated that no new fatalities had been reported.
