According to the IMD, widespread rain is expected over parts of the eastern Himalayas, particularly Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and other northeastern states, for the next 4-5 days (IMD). It also predicted widespread and heavy rain in Uttarakhand, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
The monsoon’s eastern end has moved closer to the Himalayan foothills, while the western end has moved north of its normal position. During the next 24 to 48 hours, the entire monsoon trough is expected to shift closer to the Himalayan foothills, according to the department.
In the lower levels, a cyclonic circulation is present over northeast Madhya Pradesh. During the next 5 days, widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy rain is very likely over northeast and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim due to the influence of these systems, according to the IMD bulletin.
From July 11, the intensity of rainfall is very likely to increase over these areas due to the influence of strong south westerly/southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal in the lower levels, and there is likely to be isolated heavy to very heavy rain in the region on August 11 and 12.
The weather department said that widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls is very likely over Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan over the next two days, with a significant reduction in intensity thereafter.
