Residents’ usual lives have been interrupted in all of Uttarakhand’s hilly areas due to excessive rainfall. With the advent of the monsoon in Uttarakhand, several districts of the state, notably Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Rishikesh, and Pauri Garhwal, have been experiencing steady rainfall.
Several rivers in the state have exceeded the danger level.
The authorities have issued an alert to the public, advising them to stay indoors due to the steady rise in river levels. The administration in these districts is likewise on high alert in case of a flood. Many low-lying parts in the Pauri Garhwal district’s Srinagar town have been flooded. The citizens of Rishikesh areas are also in turmoil, as the Ganga’s water level has risen to dangerous levels.
For devotees, the Ganga ‘snan’ that was supposed to take place at Haridwar on the festival of Ganga Dussehra and Nirjala Ekadashi on June 20 and 21 has been cancelled. Aside from the Alaknanda and Ganga rivers, the water level in Pithoragarh’s Dhauliganga river has risen as a result of recent heavy rains.
Rainfall has also hampered movement around the state. Due to rainfall, the National Highway in the Ghat area near Pithoragarh was closed on Friday. Several major roadways in the state have been clogged with traffic. Several routes in Uttarakhand have been reported to be closed owing to landslides as the mountainous state is battered by heavy rain.
According to sources, the Badrinath National Highway was temporarily stopped in Uttarakhand’s Tehri-Garhwal on Friday due to a landslide in the Gulabkoti and Kaudia sections of Chamoli, and the Rishikesh-Srinagar highway was temporarily closed near Uttarakhand’s Tehri-Garhwal on Saturday.
For the next three days, the meteorological department has issued a red alert. Flooding has also occurred in low-lying areas of the state as a result of the heavy rain. All of the ghats in Rudraprayag have been entirely inundated in water, as has the famous Shiv Murti.
As the water level rose above the danger level, Paramarth Niketan’s iconic Shiv Pratima in Rishikesh was almost flooded. The city’s well-known Triveni Ghat is now also submerged.
The city of Haridwar has been placed on high alert since the water level in the city river has risen above the danger zone. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that heavy rains will continue to fall in Uttarakhand’s hill areas in the coming days.
