The decline in the commodity and service tax (GST) collection has declined since the last two months. In December last year, the GST collection increased to Rs 86,703 crore. The Finance Ministry has written on Twitter: “Total revenue collection for December 2017 under GST was Rs 86,703 crore till January 24.
It is to be noted that the total collection under GST had dropped to Rs 80,808 crore in November. This was the second consecutive month when the decline was recorded. Earlier, in October, it was more than Rs 83,000 crore and even before September, it was over Rs 92,150 crore.
According to the ministry, till January 24, one crore taxpayers have registered under GST. Of these, 17.11 lakhs are registered under the purview of composite scheme. These taxpayers need to file returns every quarter.
The statement said that 56.30 lakh GSTR 3B returns have been filed for December.
The last date for filing of GSTR-4 returns for the July-September quarter was December 24 for the traders coming under the integrated tax plan. A total of 8.10 lakh returns were filed and tax receipts were Rs.335.86 crore.
The last date for filing GSTR-4 returns for the October-December quarter was January 18. A total of 9.25 lakh returns were filed and Rs 421.35 crore was paid.
