Minister Arun Jaitley, presenting the general budget on Thursday, can increase the number of connections under the Prime Minister Ujjwala scheme from five to eight crore. The government had started this scheme with the aim of providing 50 million gas connections to the common people during the three years from 2016.
The Ujjwala scheme proved to be extremely successful and within a year and eight months all the three3.3 million gas connections were allocated. In this way, the target of 5 million gas connections is completed by the end of this year. So, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley can increase the allocation with the aim of increasing the Ujjwala scheme in the budget. The Central Government has kept the goal of providing clean fuel to every house by the year 2022. Ujjwala scheme has been started to achieve this goal.
