France is ready to assist India in its battle against coronavirus, said French President Emmanuel Macron today, as the nation recorded over three lakh cases in 24 hours for the second day in a row.
“I’d like to express my sympathy with the Indian people, who are dealing with a revival in COVID-19 incidents. France stands behind you in this battle that spares no one. We are prepared to give our assistance “Macron’s statement was tweeted today by French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain.
In the last 24 hours, India recorded 3,32,730 new COVID-19 deaths, with 2,263 fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry. The total number of cases in the country has surpassed 1.62 crores. The death toll now stands at 1,86,920.
In an address to the nation Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the second Covid wave as a “toofan” (storm) that had swept through the region.
The deteriorating COVID-19 situation has resulted in an increase in demand for medical oxygen and accommodation, with several states experiencing an acute shortage of oxygen, beds, and critical drugs.
With the COVID-19 situation deteriorating, several countries have placed travel restrictions on Indian citizens.
France declared on Wednesday that it would place a 10-day quarantine on visitors arriving from India in the coming days in order to avoid the dissemination of a COVID-19 mutation discovered in India.
From Sunday, the UAE has imposed a 10-day travel ban from India. Passengers who have transited through India in the last 14 days are also barred from boarding from any other point to the UAE, according to Gulf News.
The United Kingdom recently added India to its travel “red list” as a precautionary measure after receiving reports of 103 cases of a coronavirus strain first detected in India.
The US has also released a “Level 4 (Very High)” travel alert to prospective visitors to India, advising them to “stop all travel” to the region, even if they are completely vaccinated.
