Last Friday (March 19),some miscreants forced two nuns and their two students to disembark from a train in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, alleging them of forced conversion.
They reportedly threatened and heckled the nuns. the group of miscreants were on the same train as the nuns, Ajay Shankar Tiwari, said that he saw the two nuns talking to the young girls and doubted that they were attempting to convert them.
He then ordered his mates and members of a specific group travelling with them to pull the nuns off the train when they arrived at Jhansi station.
The railway police arrived shortly after, and the nuns were taken to the police station. The police found that the alleged claim was fabricated when they interrogated the nuns and their postulates since the two postulates were bearing baptism cards from 2003.
Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday, March 24, asking him to take stern action against those involved in the shocking incident. According to Pinarayi Vijayan’s letter, the nuns were “harassed and humiliated by about 150 Bajrang Dal activists” and were even mistreated by railway police.
“It is reported that the nuns and the postulates were forcefully removed from the train by the Jhansi police without the presence of women police officials and despite nuns showing their Aadhaar ID cards, the police did not accept those cards stating that they are fake. It was only after the matter was taken up with higher officials and after the intervention of Lucknow IG of Police, the nuns and the postulates were released from the police station at around 11 PM,” the Kerala CM’s letter to Shah read.
keeping the eye on the matter, Shah said strict action would be taken against the perpetrators. Speaking at an election rally on Wednesday, “Those involved in the Jhansi nuns’ harassment incident will be brought before the law.” the home minister said
