The families of the victims feel betrayed by the government that didn’t even inform them about the murder of 39 Indian laborers killed by the dangerous terrorist organization ISIS in Iraq in the year 2014.
The family said that they were kept in the dark for years on behalf of the Central Government, saying that their people are still alive. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj gave a statement in the Rajya Sabha that the dead bodies have been collected from the village of Badhosh near North-West Mosul and they have been identified through the DNA test.
However, it has not been clear yet when these Indians have been killed. Sushma Swaraj said that the bones are left and it has been collected of by digging them out. Special aircraft will be brought to India and handed over to all their relatives. It is noteworthy that a group of 40 Indian workers, most of whom were residents of Punjab, were held hostage by the ISIS in Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul in 2014. Of the 40 Indians, Harjeet, a resident of Gurdaspur, escaped from the house and claimed that the rest of the others were killed. But, the government completely rejected his claim. Amarjit Kaur, wife of Gobindar Singh, living in Murar village of Kapurthala in Punjab, says that his family wants to see him for the last time. Amarjeet said, “The government should send us the dead bodies as soon as possible.” Her mourning is quite evident from her words.
