“Two blue ticks and one red tick indicate that the government can take action against you, while three red ticks indicate that the government has filed a lawsuit against you.” This is what a new WhatsApp message states, albeit it should be highlighted that every claim made in this viral message is false. Last year, a similar three red ticks message went viral and was quickly disproved.
The message alleges that WhatsApp has implemented new communication restrictions, and it is being circulated at a time when the Facebook-owned service is in court over India’s new IT laws, which include a traceability provision.
While the traceability regulations are being challenged, users should keep in mind that WhatsApp is still private and end-to-end encrypted, which means that no third party, including Facebook, WhatsApp, or the government, can read their communications.
The ‘forwarded many times’ label on the viral letter claims that once the new laws are enacted, all calls will be logged and social media profiles will be monitored. It states that if a person posts a derogatory comment about the government or about religion, they will be jailed. Users should not forward this communication since all of the assertions stated are false.
Your gadgets will be “linked to the ministry system,” according to the phoney message. The viral post also claims that the Facebook-owned corporation has adopted a new tick system that allows users to see if their chats are being monitored by the authorities.
It’s worth noting that WhatsApp hasn’t adopted any new communication restrictions, and there’s no such thing as a three-red-tick or three-blue-tick feature. When a user sends a message, you get one tick to indicate that the message was sent, and two ticks to indicate that the message was delivered. If the message contains two blue ticks, the message has been read by the receiver.
