National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Syed Shehzadi said that the targets set for the schemes related to minority communities should be achieved cent percent.
She said that the amount received from the Centre should be fully utilised on time.
The Chairperson of the Commission was reviewing the programmes of various departments of the government at Mantralaya today. Secretary Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Swatantra Kumar Singh, Commissioner Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Gopal Chandra Dad also attended the meeting.
Commission Chairperson Shehzadi said that the Central Government is committed for the holistic development of the minorities. In this regard, schemes are operated in the states with the assistance from Central government for the educational, social and economic welfare of these classes.
It was apprised in the meeting that for the improvement in educational standards of students belonging to Muslim, Christian, Jain, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities of the state, approximately one lakh 40 thousand students were provided with pre-matric scholarship with a total scholarship of about Rs 48 crore.
Post matric scholarship of Rs 16 crore 15 lakh was provided to 23 thousand 700 students of these categories. Merit-cum-means scholarship of Rs 7 crore 50 lakh was provided to 2530 students for technical courses.
It was informed in during the meeting that 7 girl hostels are operated in Bhopal, Burhanpur, Sheopur and Khargone for girl students belonging to minority communities. There is also a facility for computer training in these hostels.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas (Prime Minister Public Development) programme was also reviewed in the meeting.
This programme is conducted mainly in minority dominated area of Bhopal, Burhanpur, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Indore, Khargone and Khandwa.
Through this programme, work is being done for the social and economic upliftment of the minorities.
It was apprised that a girls hostel with the capacity of 180 residents has been completed in the Government Unani College of Bhopal.
A smart class-room has been built in the Polytechnic College of Khandwa.
The work of Rainbasera (night shelter) building in Bhopal is almost complete.
The schemes of the Minorities Finance Development Corporation were reviewed in the meeting.
Provide vocational education to the students studying in Madrasas
The Chairperson of the National Commission said that along with traditional education, arrangements should be made to provide English education to the students studying in Madrasas.
It was told that 1755 Madrasas are operated in the state.
Free textbooks and mid-day meals are being provided to these students. The activities of Anganwadi, Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana and self-help groups for women and child development were also reviewed in the meeting.
