Srinagar’s administration announced standard operating guidelines to restrict the use of drones on Sunday. Persons who already have drone cameras or unmanned aerial vehicles must ground them at the local police station, according to new SOPs.
SSP-Srinagar has issued an order imposing reasonable restrictions on drone storage, sale/possession, use, and transport in the Srinagar district.
“Whereas, flying unmanned aircraft (drones) is governed by Aircraft Act, 1934 and Civil Aviation Rules 2021 which restrict flying Drones (UAV) in prohibited area viz;
- Within a distance of 3 kilometers from the perimeter of any civil, private, Defence Airports, Military installations/facilities, State Secretariat Complex;
- Within 2 kilometers from the perimeter of strategic locations/vital installations;
- Over Eco-sensitive zones around National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries.”
The order restricts drones from flying within 3 kilometers of any civil, private, or defence airports, military installations/facilities, or state secretariat complex.
Drones are also prohibited inside 2 kilometers of strategic destinations, as well as above eco-sensitive zones like National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries.
According to the administration, in order to secure the aerial space around vital installations and densely populated places, it is critical to stop the use of drones. The prohibition is applicable to all social gatherings and events. This will avoid any risk of injury to people or property damage.
It said that letting unmanned aerial vehicles to freely move in the skies under the District Srinagar is extremely risky. In recent incidents of drone misuse with a threat to defence sector, the govt. added that decentralized airspace access must be restricted.
