Today, on the occasion of the National Doctors’ Day Premier Narendra Modi will address the Medical Fraternity. The Indian Medical Association is organising the event (IMA).
The Day of the Doctors is celebrated in honour of Bidhan Chandra Roy, the renowned Doctor and former Minister of West Bengal, who celebrates his birth and death on 1st July.
PM Modi had previously stated in a tweet, “India is proud of the efforts of all the doctors in the fighting of COVID-19. Tomorrow at 15:00 the community of physicians will speak on a @IMAIndiaOrg programme.”
In the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister has played an important role in honouring the medical community, including doctors and other professionals.
On Sunday the PM Modi recalled Dr. BC Roy in his husband Ki Baat. In the context of Doctors’ day, PM Modi said, Speaking about doctors, “The National Doctors Day will be celebrated on July 1. We have to honour our doctors who ensure that India does not succeed in meeting Covid-19’s challenges.”
In 1991, the Indian government established Doctors’ Day to honour BC Roy’s contributions. He was instrumental in the formation of the Medical Council of India and the Indian Medical Association. This day is commemorated to honour the contributions of doctors to the nation’s progress.
