The AAP (RTI Wing) has raise demand to give pension to the MLAs for single term and discontinue the present practice of giving separate pension for each term on their elected to the Madhya Pradesh State Legislative Assembly more than once.
AAP state president (RTI wing) Manish Sharma said that at present about Rs 22 crore is disbursed per month in form of pension to MLAs.
It is noteworthy to mention on basis of the available information that there are many MLAs who get pension for their several terms as legislator ranging from two to eight terms, he said.
The demand is raised after the appreciable step taken by the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on June 25 last decided the state ministers will have to pay their income tax on own instead of the state government bearing such burden as per the rules framed way back in year 1972, Sharma said.
According to the information the number of former MLAs in Madhya Pradesh is around 450, he said.
The government disburse pension to these MLAs which has been fixed at Rs 35000 per month.
He said a letter in this regard is emailed to the Chief Minister and the Governor demanding the implementation of pension to the MLA for single term.
The government has made a provision in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Member Salary, Allowance and Pension Act 1972 (मध्य प्रदेश विधानसभा सद्स्य वेतन, भत्ता तथा पेंशन अधिनियम 1972) that no matter how many times you become an MLA, a separate pension will be added every time, for example, if you are elected 5 times, one will get 5 separate pensions amount.
There are more than 250 MLAs in Madhya Pradesh who get pension for more than one term, he said.
RTI wing activists want the Madhya Pradesh Government to follow the scheme of the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Punjab.
On June 25 last the Madhya Pradesh cabinet decided that the state ministers will have to pay their income tax instead of the state government bearing such burden as per the rules framed way back in year 1972.
The state government was paying the income tax on salaries and perks of the ministers.
