Four Ladakh students have been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in connection with the blast near the Israeli embassy in January. The students were apprehended in Kargil and sent to Delhi on remand. The suspects have been named as Nazir Hussain (26), Zulfikar Ali Wazir (25), Aiaz Hussain (28) and Muzammil Hussain (25), all of whom live in Thang village in Ladakh’s Kargil district, according to the police.
On January 29, 2021, a minor IED explosion occurred outside the Israeli Embassy in the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi. There were no deaths, but the explosion, which occurred approximately 150 metres from the embassy on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, caused damage to some parked automobiles in the vicinity.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police detained four people from Kargil in a joint operation with a central intelligence agency and the Kargil police in connection with a conspiracy to plan and execute terror activities in the national capital, according to a statement quoting Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal. “They have been taken on remand and brought to Delhi for questioning,” he said.
The Delhi Police Special Cell, which was investigating the event, has filed a conspiracy charge. Officials had previously stated that the police squad reviewed video from over 100 CCTV cameras located in and around the embassy during its probe.
The Delhi Police Special Cell had observed two guys strolling on the pavement before the bomb in one such video, they had claimed. Both males were observed going along the street with their faces hidden, and one of them was seen wearing a jacket and carrying a bag, according to the police.
On February 2, the Ministry of Home Affairs handed over the investigation into the incident to the National Investigation Agency. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for the identity of two persons recorded on CCTV cameras.
