Police in Delhi’s Najafgarh district told on Tuesday that a couple had been arrested for murdering an old woman and dumping her body into a canal. The couple had accepted a loan from the woman for Rs. 1 lakh and were unable to repay it.
According to senior police officer Santosh Meena, Anil Arya and his wife Tanu have acknowledged their crime and told police that they chopped the corpse into numerous pieces before discarding it in the Najafgarh canal.
The corpse of the 75-year-old woman has now been recovered from the canal by police.
The woman had been continually begging the pair to refund her money, according to the accused, who is an event management professional.
The couple, that lives in the same neighbourhood, strangled the woman when she was alone at her house, police said.
