A deceased candidate Ravindra Thakur wins surpanch election in village Kajera in Deori tehsil of Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the authorities the candidate died of cardiac arrest on June 22 but the family members did not informed about his death to the district returning office.

The polls took place on July 1.

The official said the name of the candidate might have been removed from the ballot paper three days prior to the polling as the ballot paper would have been reprinted.

The district election office has sought opinion from the MP State Election Commission in this regard as the results are yet to be declared through counting is done soon after the polling is over same day.

Thakur got 512 votes, while other candidates Chandrabhan Ahirwar got 257 votes and Vinod Singh 153 votes.

The village has 1296 voters of which 1043 exercised their franchise.
