India’s latest Covid deaths have reached an all-time high, with 3,293 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of new cases increased by over 3.6 lakh, setting a new record for the world, bringing the total number of cases to over 1.79 crores. India has run out of oxygen and medicines as a result of the crisis.
‘Oxygen Express’ arrives at Bhopal’s Mandideep railway station
The ‘Oxygen Express,’ carrying 6 oxygen tankers from Bokaro, Jharkhand, arrives at Bhopal’s Mandideep railway station. At Mandideep and Sagar, two tankers will be unloaded respectively, and one tanker will be sent to Jabalpur.

Indian Covid variants detected in at least 17 countries: WHO
The B.1.617 version of Covid-19, first discovered in India, had been observed in over 1,200 sequences submitted to the GISAID open-access database “from at least 17 countries” as of Tuesday, according to the UN health department. “The majority of sequences were uploaded from India, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Singapore,” the WHO said in its weekly pandemic epidemiological update. B.1.617, which includes many sub-lineages with slightly differing mutations and features, was recently designated as a “variant of interest” by the WHO. But it hasn’t gone so far as to call it a “variant of concern.”
One dose of Covid vaccine will reduce household spread by up to 50%: UK study
According to an English report released Wednesday, one dose of the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines decreases the chances of those contaminated with coronavirus transmitting it to other household members by up to 50%. According to the Public Health England (PHE) report, people who were infected three weeks after having their first vaccine were 38 to 49 percent less likely than those who were not vaccinated to transfer the virus on to their household contacts.
Indian-American NGO raises $4.7mn for Covid relief
“This is a concerted initiative that will save lives, end malnutrition, reassure people in need, and assist India in its decisive battle against COVID-19,” Sewa International USA said. Sewa picked up a batch of 2,184 oxygen concentrators for shipment to India on Tuesday.
More than 66,700 Indian-Americans came out in less than 100 hours after the fund-raising drive began, raising more than $4.7 million for COVID-19 relief efforts in India, according to the statement. Volunteers from Sewa are constructing an automated helpdesk to provide people with vital information such as emergency service, hospital bed availability, and blood and pharmaceutical supplies.
