On Tuesday, Delhi recorded 28,395 coronavirus cases, the highest single-day increase in the city’s history. The city, which was hardest hit by the second wave of infections, reported 277 deaths in a single day. The number of active cases in the national capital has risen to nearly 85,600.
On Tuesday, the case positivity score was a staggering 32.82 percent. According to the state government, 86,526 Covid checks were performed in the last 24 hours.
In one day, the national capital had 19,430 recoveries.
Delhi’s health system is on the brink of collapsing due to the massive caseload. Hospital beds, medications, and medical oxygen are all in short supply in the region.
The oxygen condition in Delhi has deteriorated to the point that some of the city’s most important hospitals could run out of oxygen in hours if supplies are not replenished.
In Delhi, there is still a severe oxygen shortage. I’m pleading with the government to supply Delhi with oxygen as soon as possible. Today, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Some hospitals are left with just a few hours of oxygen.”
Manish Sisodia, Mr. Kejriwal’s deputy, said that oxygen in some hospitals will run out in 8-12 hours.
“We have been asking for a week that the central government raise the oxygen supply quota to Delhi, which they must do.” There will be public outrage if ample oxygen does not hit hospitals by tomorrow morning,” he tweeted.
The Delhi High Court today drew the center’s attention to the oxygen shortage. “Blood is on their lips” if drugs aren’t delivered to areas that actually need them, it added.
On Tuesday, India reported 1,761 Covid deaths, the highest one-day increase in the country’s history, and over 2.59 lakh new cases.
