The number of recent Covid deaths in India has reached an all-time high, with 3,293 people dying in the last 24 hours. New cases increased by more than 3.6 lakh, a global record, bringing the overall number of cases to more than 1.79 crores. India is in desperate need of oxygen and antibiotics as a result of the disaster.
Over three lakh cases have been recorded in India for the seventh day in a row, making it the second worst-affected nation after the United States. The new deaths, which occurred on the country’s deadliest day of the pandemic, bring the estimated number of casualties to 2,01,187.
On Tuesday, Maharashtra, the state with the highest Covid tally, recorded a staggering 895 new Covid-related deaths and over 66,000 new cases.
Following Maharashtra, the states of Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi have the highest number of infections.
On Tuesday, Kerala, which announced India’s first coronavirus case in January, reported over 30,000 new infections for the first time. According to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the state’s active caseload has increased by a staggering 255% in the last two weeks.
In the last 24 hours, up to 381 people died from Covid in Delhi, the highest number in the capital’s history. The number of new infections was 24,149, bringing the total number of active cases to more than 98,000. The percentage of people who are optimistic has stayed stable at 32.72 percent.
Karnataka has started a two-week shutdown in an attempt to stem the state’s massive increase in the number of incidents. Bengaluru currently has over two lakh active cases, and its health system is often overwhelmed by the need for ICU beds, oxygen, and medicines. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 31,830 Covid incidents.
On Tuesday, Assam announced 18 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the total number of cases to over 2.43 lakh, with 3,132 more people tested positive for the disease.
The registration for the next step of the mega vaccine campaign for people above the age of 18 will begin today at 4 p.m. Those who qualify can book their slots online via the government’s Co-Win platform or the Aarogya Setu app. Before now, only those above the age of 45 and healthcare and frontline staff were permitted to receive the vaccine.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting with top officials on Tuesday to study the Covid situation and asked them to ensure that health infrastructure is upgraded as soon as possible.
