The BJP has accused Congress leader Digvijaya Singh of speaking against India and in collaboration with Pakistan after he said in a clubhouse chat that revoking Article 370 and robbing Jammu and Kashmir of statehood was a “very sad” move and that his party will “relook” at the matter.

Singh’s comments to a person who the BJP said was a Pakistani journalist were used by the saffron party to attack the opposition, with its spokesperson Sambit Patra seeking answers on the subject from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi.

“The decision of revoking Article 370 and reducing the statehood of J&K is extremely, I would say, sad decision, and the Congress party would certainly have a relook on the issue,” Singh said, according to bits of conversation available on social media.

He was replying to a query regarding the issue’s “future” once the Modi administration leaves office.

As the BJP attacked him, Singh responded with a Hindi-language tweet that appeared to be a dig at the ruling party.

“This bunch of illiterate people cannot probably differentiate between ‘shall’ and ‘consider’,” the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said.

Attacking him, Patra told reporters, “We have all seen how Digvijaya Singh is spitting venom on India and speaking in agreement with Pakistan. This is the same guy who called the Pulwama attack an accident and the Mumabi incident on November 26th an RSS conspiracy.”

Singh’s words, according to the BJP politician, were part of a bigger pattern of the party being “hand in glove” with Pakistan, as other Congress officials, including Rahul Gandhi and Mani Shankar Aiyar, have previously stated.

“This is all part of the toolkit which the BJP had exposed,” Patra said in a reference to a controversial document rejected as fake by the Congress.

He said that the Congress will go so far as to collaborate with China and Pakistan to foment “hatred” against Modi and India.

“The Congress should change its name from INC (Indian National Congress) to ANC, Anti-national Clubhouse. This is such a clubhouse whose members have begun hating India while hating Modi,” he alleged

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were asked by Patra to state their party’s position on the subject.

He stated that these Congress MPs are led by Rahul Gandhi, and that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has exploited his criticism of Article 370 as part of his country’s UN dossier against India on the topic.

Other BJP officials who assailed Congress in their tweets included Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Kiren Rijiju.
