Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep concern on Friday about the state’s limited supply of fertilizers. For the ongoing Kharif season, the state is facing shortage issues and requested the Centre to establish monthly movement supply plans that meet the state’s needs.
Patnaik requested Mansukh Mandaviya’s personal assistance in a letter to the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers to ensure “delivery of fertilizers as per monthly agreed supply plan and clearance of the backlog of previous months for seamless distribution in the larger interest of the farmers.”
In order to compensate for the significant agricultural losses suffered by storm Yaas in the State lately, Patnaik indicated that fertilizers should be distributed as needed.
“Because the peak consumption time for urea in the State is mid-July to September, and the peak demand period for all other fertilizers is July to August,” he said in his letter, “the inadequate supply will significantly affect agricultural production in the State.”
According to the CM, a shortage of fertilizers could lead to law and order issues in several areas of the state. He noted that the supply was made according to the State’s requirements in April, but that it was short-supplied in May, June, and July.

“The State has received only 1,45,145 MT of urea during the current Kharif to date, against an allocation of 2,31,530 MT and an agreed supply plan of 2,10,000 MT,” Patnaik said.
Similarly, Odisha received 97,763 MT of DAP over time, compared to a total allocation of 1,52,000 MT and a supply plan of 1,45,000 MT.
MOP and NPKS supplies were 42,867 MT and 1,05,798 MT, against allocations of 67,200 MT and 1,68,400 MT, respectively. He agreed supply plans of 60,000 MT and 1,42,000 MT.
The amount of urea received by the state is 62 percent less than the allocation and 69 percent less than the agreed-upon supply plan, according to the Chief Minister’s letter.
