Prior scheduling and pre-online registration for Covid immunisation are not required, according to the Union Health Ministry. According to the government, anybody aged 18 or older can go to the local vaccination facility, where a vaccinator will perform on-site registration and immunisation for the Covid vaccine in the same visit.
This is sometimes referred to as ‘walk-ins.’ It’s been a while “The streamlined registration through the Common Service Centers (CSCs) on Co-WIN is simply one of the various ways of registration on Co-WIN,” the health ministry stated in a statement released on Tuesday.
“That, all the above modes, specifically operationalised for rural areas, are functional and enabling equitable access to vaccination in rural areas, is evident from the fact that, as on 13.06.2021, out of the 28.36 crore beneficiaries registered on Co-WIN, 16.45 crore (58%) beneficiaries have been registered in the on-site mode,” the ministry said.
Beneficiaries in rural regions and those living in urban slums are also mobilised by facilitators such as health professionals or ASHAs for on-site registration and immunisation at the nearest vaccination clinics. The capability for assisted registrations through the 1075 Help Line has also been operationalized, according to the ministry.
It went on to say that out of the entire 24.84 crore vaccine doses registered on Co-WIN as of June 13th, 19.84 crore doses, or over 80% of all vaccine doses, were given out via walk-in vaccination.
According to the ministry, 26,114 Sub-Health Centers, 26,287 Primary Health Centers, and 9,441 Community Health Centers operated out of a total of 1,03,585 Immunization Centers giving vaccination from May 1 to June 12, accounting for 59.7% of the total vaccination centres.
All of the CVCs at Sub-Health Centers, Primary Health Centers, and Community Health Centers are located in rural regions, where individuals may walk-in for on-site registration and vaccination, according to the report.
According to the ministry, out of the 69,995 vaccination facilities designated as rural or urban by states on Co-WIN, 49,883 vaccination facilities, or 71%, are situated in rural regions.
According to statistics accessible on Co-WIN till June 3rd, tribal areas had a higher immunisation rate per million inhabitants than the national average. According to the report, 128 out of 176 tribal areas outperformed the rest of India in terms of immunisation coverage.
“More walk-in vaccinations are happening in Tribal Districts as compared to National average. Gender ratio for people vaccinated is also better in the tribal districts,” the government said.
These figures debunk the myth or misperception regarding the rural-urban gap, according to the Centre, “since the Co-WIN system provides a truly adaptable and inclusive framework for promoting vaccination recording in rural regions, particularly in the most distant portions of the Country.”
