Massive plantation in Amarkantak on Haryali Amavsya
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan calls for launch of awareness campaign for conservation of river Narmada from May 1 next.
He said a road map will be prepared for conservation and promotion of river Narmada.
On May 1, people associated with Narmada Seva Abhiyan will launch a public awareness campaign, he said during review of the works of Narmada revival programme held at Amarkantak, Anuppur on Sunday.
The river Narmada originates from Amarkantak in Anuppur district of the state.
He appeals the public to take pledge on June 5 observed as environment day to plant different species of plants in catchment areas of Narmada in different places.
Chouhan said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a call to build Amrit Sarovar in the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
It is necessary to plant trees and make water structures for the conservation and protection of river Narmada, he said.
The water structures forming the Amrit Sarovar must be located on the banks of Narmada, he said.
The chief minister said Amrit Sarovar will be constructed on the banks of 41 tributaries of Narmada too, so to ensure continuous water flow in river Narmada. Along with this, water should flow into the Narmada river from everywhere, he said.
Chouhan said tree plantation will be done on a large scale in Amarkantak region on Hariyali Amavasya festival.
He said Narmada Seva Yatra will be started again for protection of river Narmada. During the previous Narmada Seva Yatra, a large-scale campaign for plantation of fruit cultivation and native species plantation was initiated similar will be the action this time too.
Then the society played an important role in this campaign along with 16 departments, he said.
Chouhan said it is a fortunate day for Madhya Pradesh, as Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Prahlad Singh Patel have come to Amarkantak so that water flow in the Narmada continues incessantly and Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan gets continuous water.
