Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has congratulated and extended his best wishes to Lahri Bai, a modern farmer of Dindori district, on being honoured by President Draupadi Murmu.
Chief Minister Chouhan has said that the honour given to Lahri Bai is a matter of pride for Madhya Pradesh. The work done by her for the conservation and promotion of Shrianna (Millet) is a source of inspiration for everyone.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that it is our endeavour to establish Madhya Pradesh’s identity not only in the country but also in the world for ‘Shrianna’. The more coarse grains are produced in the state, the more economically empowered our tribal farmers will be. Whole grains are also beneficial for good health, so it is necessary that more and more people ‘adopt whole grains and lead a healthy life.’
It may be noted that President Draupadi Murmu today presented the ‘Plant Genome Sanrakshak Kisan Samman’ for the year 2021-22 to Lahri Bai, a farmer of Dindori, in New Delhi on Tuesday, September 12, for the conservation and promotion of Shrianna species.
Lahri Bai was given an honorarium of Rs 1.5 lakh, a citation and a memento as a mark of respect at the investiture ceremony of the Farmers’ Rights Global Seminar.
Lahri Bai is a resident of Bajag tehsil of Dindori district. With the help of Baiga community, she has developed a seed bank of rare cereal species like Kodo, Kutki, Sanwa, Kaag, Sikia, Madua. Lahri Bai has displayed her seed bank in the exhibition in the four-day global seminar which started from 12th September in Delhi.
