Addressing a press conference in London, Syed Shuja, the man who sensationalised EVMs right before General Elections claimed “EVMs are hacked” via Sykpe. He included, “I’ve worked with EVM manufacturing Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) in past.” As he lacks evidence to prove his case, Delhi Police registered an FIR against him from Election Commission’s (EC) complaint.

Syed Shuja is a US-based “cyber savant” who on Monday claimed that electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in 2014 Lok Sabha polls had been meddled to rig the outcome.

Delhi Police’s additional PRO Anil Mittal said, “We have registered an FIR and further investigation will be conducted as per law.” The FIR is filed under IPC Section 505 (whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report).

Electronic Corporation of India (ECIL) responsible for design and development of EVMs declared that “cyber expert” was never an employee.

Election Commission says, “There is no mechanism in ECI-EVMs to communicate with any device through wireless communication on any radio frequency. All versions of ECI-EVMs are regularly and rigorously tested against low to high wireless frequencies.”

The Foreign Press Association (FPA), along with Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA) had organised a press conference in London on Monday for Syed Shuja. Although, since then the organization has “disassociated” itself from the surprising event. Ashis Ray, president of IJA-Europe, said, “In hindsight, we can say Ahmed (Shuja) disappointed. But that does not mean we should not have listened to him.”
