In light of the growing number of Covid-19 cases across the country, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the decision to hold the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams should be reconsidered. The Delhi CM has asked the government to postpone the exams due to the troubling situation in the national capital, according to news agency ANI.
“The CBSE exams will be taken by 6 lakh children in Delhi. It would include almost 1 lakh teachers. This might turn into big hotspots, spreading Corona on a wide scale,” said Kejriwal. “The lives and welfare of children are very significant to us. He said, “I recommend that the CBSE exams be canceled.” He also urged young people to leave home only when absolutely necessary and urged those over 45 to get vaccinated right away.
Manish Sisodia, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, and Education Minister has tweeted in favor of canceling the CBSE board exams in 2021. “Given the number of corona cases around the world, the CBSE board exams should be canceled immediately. Why is there a stubbornness to administer the end-of-year test in the old way because the whole year of school is not completed in the old way?” Sisodia sent out a tweet.
The alarming increase in cases around the country has prompted government officials and parent organizations to call for the board exams to be canceled. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congresswoman, wrote to Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Sunday, urging him to reconsider conducting the exams.
In the last 24 hours, India has reported 1.61 lakh cases, bringing the total to 1.36 crore. On Monday, the nation saw 1.68 lakh Covid cases in a single day, the highest daily increase ever.
In the wake of a worrying increase, the AAP government announced on Monday that 14 private hospitals in Delhi have been designated as “absolute COVID-19” hospitals, meaning they can only admit patients who are infected with the coronavirus. Mr. Kejriwal said today, “I advise everybody to cooperate in this regard.”
