On Monday, a Woman Naxal was shot by security troops in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. The encounter location yielded two country-made guns, 2 kg of IED explosives, and Naxal literature, according to the authorities. The clash took occurred in the jungles of Gumalnar in the PS Geedam region of Dantewada between PLGA cadres of the CPI (Maoist) and the Chhattisgarh police.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said the shootout occurred at 6.30 a.m. in Gumalnar village, within the Geedam police station boundaries, while a squad of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Naxal operation.
The rebels were able to flee after a brief exchange of fire. The corpse of a lady Naxal, Vaiko Pekko (24) was later retrieved from the area, which is around 400 kilometres from the state capital Raipur, according to the official.
She was a member of the PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army) unit no.16 of Maoists and had a bounty of Rs 2 lakh on her head. She was a resident of Bhairamgarh region in the neighbouring Bijapur district. Two country-made firearms, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 2 kg, other Maoist material, medicines and items of daily use were also recovered from the encounter site, the official said.
