Raipur, Chhattisgarh: A month after making headlines for getting electricity bills without getting electricity, Chattisgarh’s Jhalpi Para village situated in Balrampur district finally got power for the first time since Independence.
The village stands in a Naxal prone area which is why the government’s initiatives have failed to reach this village, the locals have spent their nights in complete dark.
For the first time since Independence, electricity made its way into the Jhalpi Para village in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh only after the media highlighted it. Around the same time last year, the village made headlines after it finally got electricity connections as the district administration installed solar panels for every family, however, the state provided electricity was dodged.
“We felt as if we were still the slaves of Britishers as even after more than 70 years of Independence there had been no electricity here. We want to thank the media for amplifying this issue. Earlier also we had approached the concerned officials, MLAs etc but no one heard us, it is after the media highlighted this problem they took note of it,” a local was quoted as saying by ANI.
In early February, the news broke out that villagers of Jhalpi village were receiving electricity bills even without electricity. The local administration got alert and took action of the plight.
It was also reported by a media source that the engineer-in-charge of the village was not even aware of the problem and got to know about it through media only, asserting that the problem has now been sorted.
