After around 800 kilos of cow dung worth Rs 1,600 was taken from the Dhurena hamlet in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, the Chhattisgarh Police filed a complaint against unknown individuals.
On the night of June 8 and 9, the theft occurred in Dhurena hamlet, which is under the jurisdiction of the Dipka police station.
“8 quintal cow dung worth Rs 1,600 has been stolen. a case against unidentified persons was lodged on June 15,” Assistant sub-inspector Suresh Kuma of the Dipka Police station said.
In Chhattisgarh, cow dung has become more lucrative when the state government declared that it would buy it for around Rs 2 per kilogramme under the ‘Godhan Nyay Yojna’ plan for the manufacture of vermicompost at gauthans.
People in Dhurena village claim that they have been collecting cow dung in exchange for money since the initiative was introduced.
