Maharashtra’s chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the supply of 4,35,000 vials of Remdesivir to the district.
“The supply of 4,35,000 Remdesivir vials to Maharashtra has been cleared by the central government till April 30th. Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving his plea,” the chief minister’s office (CMO) said in a tweet. According to a statement from the CMO, 2,69,000 vials were previously sent to the state.
According to the CMO, CM Thackeray informed PM Modi about the problems caused by the Remdesivir shortage and demanded that he authorize a consignment of the antiviral drug to the state.
Rajendra Shingne, the state’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) minister, said last week that the state was running out of Remdesivir due to a surge in new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases. “We need at least 60,000 Remdesivir doses each day and currently have a shortfall of 18,000 to 20,000 doses per day. “Our issue is that the number of patients is growing every day,” Shingne said.
A day later, Maharashtra’s health minister, Rajesh Tope, announced that the state has enough Remdesivir to meet the day’s demand. “We have enough (Remdesivir supplies) to meet current demand, but delivery is the only issue. I urge doctors to correctly administer medicinal oxygen and Remdesivir.”
According to the state health bulletin on Saturday, Maharashtra recorded 67,160 cases of Covid-19 disease and 676 deaths in the last 24 hours. The cumulative number of pending cases in the state now stands at 6,94,480. So far, the outbreak has claimed the lives of 63,928 people in the province. Maharashtra, which remains the pandemic’s worst-affected state, now has 42,28,836 infections and 34,68,610 patients who have recovered from the disease.
