The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Saturday that the city of Bhubaneswar had achieved 100% vaccination against Covid 19. The municipal corporation had set a goal of inoculating 9.7 lakh people with 18.14 double doses.
Up till Friday, 18.35 lakh doses of the vaccine have been provided, with 10.59 lakh people receiving the first dose. Similarly, 7.7 lakh people living in the city have already received their final vaccinations.
Laxmikant Sethy, BMC’s Additional Commissioner, said the civic body had helped a wide range of people. The number includes those living in rural areas on the outskirts of town.
A large number of outsiders continue to travel to the city on a regular basis. He went on to say, “No one has been neglected.” The beneficiaries, who include both outsiders and city residents, have been immunized.
Residents, on the other hand, have been given priority, he said.
“As many as 18.16 lakh doses including the first and second dose have been administered in Bhubaneswar. We have now closed only the drive-in vaccination centers in the city. The inoculation centers at UPHCs and mobilized centers are functional in the town currently,” he added.
The number of people rushing to become beneficiaries has significantly decreased. Only those who missed their jab for various reasons are visiting the sites and getting their shots, according to Sethy.
Odisha had given out 1,50,99,766 doses of COVID vaccination as of July 22.
According to the CO-WIN portal, 1.16 crore people have received the first dose, and roughly 35 lakh have received the booster dose as of July 22. The state government also started the Covid vaccination programme for pregnant women by establishing dedicated medical centers.
