The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked schools to follow NCERT Learning Outcomes and made changes to testing and evaluation procedures in order to transition towards Competency-Based Education (CBE).
The Board has written a letter to the principals of all affiliated colleges, proposing new policies in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.
“The National Education Policy 2020 has reiterated the need to shift from rote to competency-based learning in order to assist students in building innovative and analytical thinking capacities to face the demands of the twenty-first century,” according to the CBSE letter.
Although the average marks and length of the tests remain unchanged, the structure of assessment activities has changed.
According to the current year-end or Board exam composition for Class 9 and 10 candidates, 30 percent of the marks will be reserved for Competency-Based Questions. This may take the form of multiple-choice questions, case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, or some other kind. Aside from that, according to the current trend, 20% of the points will be for Objective-type questions and the other 50% will be for short or long answer questions.
