An official stated on Saturday that Mumbai police had filed a complaint against television actress Munmun Dutta for allegedly using a derogatory phrase against a group.
According to authorities, the complaint stems from a statement made by the “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma” actor in a video on make-up that she shared on a social media site on May 9 in which she used a term for a certain population.
On social media networks, the video had gone viral.
“The case against Dutta was registered on May 26 based on a complaint lodged by Naresh Bohit (40), a community leader and a worker of a political party, at Goregaon police station on May 12,” the police official said.
The complaint application was transferred to Amboli police station since the actor lives within its jurisdiction, he added.
Following the probe, a FIR was filed against the actor on Wednesday.
The actress received backlash for her comments, prompting her to offer an apology on May 10 in which she said that she used the phrase because of a “linguistic problem.”
Similar complaints against the actor had already been filed in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, according to authorities.
