The Election Commission (EC) declared on Tuesday that voting for the by-election in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh Assembly would take place on April 17. On May 2, the election results will be announced.
After Congress MLA Rahul Lodhi withdrew from the party and joined the BJP in October 2020, the seat of Damoh became vacant.
The by-election notice will be sent out on March 23. The deadline for nominations is March 30th, and nominations will be scrutinized until March 31st. The deadline to withdraw your nomination is April 3, with voting taking place on April 17 and counting on May 2.
In the upcoming weeks, the constituency will hold a by-election. The Congress party has been campaigning for the presidency.
The meeting was attended by the DCC president of Damoh, as well as the in-charge of the constituency, department presidents, and representatives of the frontal organizations, according to state vice-president Prakash Jain. The leaders provided the former chief minister with demographic information as well as the new political situation.
About the fact that the Damoh by-elections will have little impact on the current Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in MP, the elections will be important to see.
The Damoh by-elections split the BJP into two factions, pitting them against one another.
The BJP has been issuing party tickets to all defectors as per an agreement, but erstwhile state minister Jayant Malaiya has made a firm assertion for the ticket in Damoh.
Malaiya, who had won Damoh for six consecutive terms since 1990, was defeated by Rahul Lodhi in the most recent elections by a razor-thin margin. Siddharth Malaiya, Jayant Malaiya’s uncle, is also a candidate for the ticket.
Although Rahul Lodhi has the support of Union Minister Prahlad Patel, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damoh, the Malaiya faction within the BJP has demanded that the ‘arrangement’ be scrapped and a ticket be issued to an old party sympathizer.
