Due to an increase in novel coronavirus cases, the Maharashtra government responded on Thursday to enact a week-long lockdown in Nagpur district from March 15 to 21. Full lockdown will be enforced in the Nagpur City Police Commissionerate sector,” Nagpur Guardian Minister Nitin Raut said, essential services will be sustained in the district.
The announcement comes as Maharashtra registered 13,659 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, accounting for nearly 60% of all new cases in the nation The Union Health Ministry revealed on Thursday that six states, including Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu, account for 85.91 percent of new coronavirus infections reported in the previous 24 hours.
The Maharashtra government has also enforced night curfews in two districts – Kalyan Dombivli and Nandurbar – and the Dhule district administration has declared a four-day ‘janata curfew’ that will begin on March 10 in response to a rise in coronavirus cases.
During the night curfew, bars and pubs can service customers only before 9 p.m. However, delivery to the home will be permitted up to 10 PM. Clinical shops and other emergency departments will continue to be excluded from constraints.
Malls and weekly markets in these areas will be shut down, celebrations and public events disallowed, and restaurants will have to be shut down at 9 p.m., according to official sources.
Mr. Thackeray had left it to the local authorities of each district to decide for tougher measures-including night curfews or partial lockdowns-to be put in place to prevent cases of infection.
The State Health Department developed a seven-point action plan, including close contact testing, rapid contact tracking, mass hot-spot testing, and mortality evaluations. Both district administrations have been asked to proceed on the action plan.
The action plan also calls for strict adherence to social, political, and religious meeting standards, as well as the participation of civil society and religious leaders in urging citizens to follow Covid-19-appropriate measures.
This news is concerning to the authorities and the people as well after months of restrictions and limitations the normalcy just returned a while ago. However, the situation has again started to appear bleak.
