The vaccine registration for those aged 18 to 45 years old finally opened on Wednesday at 4 p.m., and as predicted, servers of the CoWIN app and website, UMANG app, and Aarogya setu app crashed.
However, the Aarogya Setu app began to work shortly after. In addition, instead of the software, consumers found the CoWIN website to be more user-friendly.
Users took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the servers’ failure. Previously, users had complained about not obtaining the one-time password (OTP) needed to login to the applications.
Hundreds of people waited awake until 12 a.m. on Wednesday, waiting for vaccine registration for the 18-45 age group to open, but the message only read, “currently registration is authorized for residents older than 45 years only.” The Indian government declared that registration for vaccination between the ages of 18 and 45 will begin on April 28 at 12 a.m. via the CoWIN and Aarogya Setu apps. However, via a MyGov Telegram channel, an email was sent stating that registrations would open at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Many people were not surprised when the server crashed at 4 p.m. due to heavy load.
The government servers are not configured to accommodate a large number of concurrent connections. When a large number of users attempt to visit the same website, the computers get overburdened and refuse to handle requests. In other words, it’s like a swarm of people streaming through a building with a narrow door that can only let two people in at a time.
