TMC having won a landslide victory with a landslide majority in the recently concluded assembly polls, turncoats who defected to the BJP seem to be making a beeline for re-entry into the Mamata Banerjee camp, the most recent being Sarala Murmu.
Ms Murmu, who had swapped camps because she was allegedly dissatisfied with the ruling party’s ticket, has voiced her wish to rejoin the TMC, a day after Ms Banerjee’s former aide, Sonali Guha, made a similar request.
Murmu, who claims that joining the BJP was a mistake on her part, has asked party supremo Mamata Banerjee to forgive her.
“If she welcomes me, I will stay with her and work hard for the party,” Ms Murmu told reporters at her home in Malda.
Ms Murmu was elected from the Malda seat of Habibpur, but party sources later said that she wanted to run from the Maldaha constituency.
“I made a mistake and ask Didi (Ms Banerjee) to forgive me,” she said.
Sonali Guha, a former TMC MLA, wrote to Banerjee on Saturday to apologise for leaving the party.
In a letter that she also posted on social media, the four-time MLA from Satgachhia in South 24 Parganas district said, “”Didi,” I would not be able to survive without you in the same way that a fish cannot stay out of water. I beg your pardon, because if you do not forgive me, I will perish. Please invite me to return and spend the rest of my life in your affection.”
