Bihar’s Nitish Kumar government will make a decision on Tuesday about the state’s Covid-19 lockdown, which ends today. The curbs are likely to be extended in the state.
According to Livehindustan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will chair a meeting of the disaster management group to discuss the restrictions that will be maintained and the relaxations that will be granted. It is then expected that an order will be issued, which will take effect on June 9th, according to the report.
Following a review of the situation by Kumar and state officials, the Bihar government extended Covid-19 lockdown until June 8. The lockdown, which began on May 5, was extended for the fourth time.
All shops and business establishments were allowed to open alternately from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to state government regulations. The district administration was tasked with deciding when the shops would open.
Previously, certain stores, such as grocery and vegetable kiosks, were permitted to open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
In Bihar, government offices were allowed to operate with a 25% staffing level, but private offices were asked to remain closed.
On Monday, Bihar reported less than 800 new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), indicating that the second wave was winding down in the state.
The health department reports that 762 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, the lowest number in the state in several months. In the same time period, 43 people died, bringing the total death toll in Bihar to 5,424.
Total number of confirmed cases has risen to 7,13,879 and 7,00,224 people have, so far, recovered. Recovery rate has reached 98.09 per cent and active caseload has dropped further to 8,230, the health department said.
More than five lakh people in the state have been infected since April and over 4,000 have lost their lives.
